In a recent video, a question was raised regarding the pricing disparity between my medical coding course and AAPC’s. Here, we will delve into the key differentiators between the two options to help you make an informed decision. So, my course is $2875 and the course from AAPC varies. Right now at the time I’m writing this, it is $2670, but I have see that price change, and actually be more expensive than my course. The thing with AAPC is, sometimes they run sales and other times they do not. Want to watch the video instead? GO HERE.
Similarities and Differences
One of the coding certifications I have, is called the Approved Instructor Certification from AAPC. This certification allows me to teach coding courses using AAPC’s curriculum. So, both my coding course, and the one offered by AAPC use the same curriculum– including the course textbook and workbook, as well as the coding books. However, beyond this common ground, there are significant distinctions that set my course apart.
Platform and Structure
AAPC’s classes are conducted on Blackboard, while my course is hosted on Podia, a user-friendly platform that enhances the learning experience for students. Nothing is wrong with Blackboard, I just chose to have my class hosted on Podia because it is what I’m familiar with, and I’ve run other courses on there successfully. Additionally, the structure of the courses varies, as I have tailored the setup based on my educational background and teaching expertise. (I have my BS of Education).
Instructor Engagement
When enrolling in AAPC’s course, the instructor remains unknown until after registration. So you have no idea who your instructor will be. On the contrary, by choosing my course, you have the advantage of knowing me upfront and understanding my approach to teaching. I prioritize transparency and create a supportive environment for students to excel. If you don’t know anything about me yet or want to see my medical coding tutorials–you can find most of my content on Tiktok and some of it on Youtube.

Interactive Learning
While AAPC’s program lacks live meetings, my course includes weekly Zoom sessions for in-depth discussions on cases, coding guidelines, and student queries. This interactive element enhances comprehension and provides a valuable opportunity for personalized guidance. I think this is the most beneficial part of my program, and makes it stand out from others. Medical coding is difficult to learn, and everyone benefits with meeting with an instructor regularly.
Additional Resources
A distinctive feature of my program is the inclusion of coding book tabs, a resource that aids in learning and exam preparation. I have been making and selling the tabs for years, and many people have told me the tabs have helped them learn the layout of the coding books. Furthermore, I prioritize building relationships with my students and offering continuous support throughout the learning journey. This is something that is very hard to put a dollar amount on. Not all instructors are there for their students.
Making an Informed Choice
Ultimately, the decision between my course and AAPC’s comes down to your individual preferences and learning style. Consider the unique benefits each program offers and choose the one that aligns best with your educational goals and needs.
By understanding the nuances of each course and evaluating what resonates with you, you can embark on your medical coding journey confidently and set yourself up for success.
